GMD 15030 - Product information

XXL excellence, by KUHN.

If you are looking for a mower that pushes the limits of performance, choose the GMD 15030, the widest mounted disc mower on the market. Although its working width is outstanding, the machine is remarkably maneuverable. Its unique folding mechanism provides transport dimensions of only 3 metres wide by 3.8 metres high to ensure maximum comfort and safety on the road.
Equipped with four aligned bars, each fitted with 7 discs, ground following is achieved on each of the two side cutter bars thanks to an independent articulation. The patented gearbox ensures perfect cutter-bar synchronisation, regardless of the position of the cutter bars, for efficient power transmission. It also contributes to the overall compactness of the machine thanks to its unmatched folding mechanism.
Designed to increase the productivity of harvesting systems while reducing costs, the GMD 15030 features KUHN's renowned technologies. The OPTIDISC ELITE cutter bar, renowned for its mowing quality, ensures a clean and consistent cut in all conditions. The LIFT-CONTROL hydro-pneumatic suspension system, combined with NON-STOP safety, provides active protection of the mower in the event of an obstacle while maintaining constant and uniform ground pressure.

Exclusive in the wide-width mounted disc mower segment, the GMD 15030 sets the standard for unmatched work output.

Compact when folded, majestic in the fields!

Your benefits

A design combining compactness and productivity

The GMD 15030 at work in a field

Unmatched work output

Designed for professionals looking for productivity and profitability, the GMD 15030's 14.50 metre working width ensures a work output of up to 20 ha/h at 15 km/h. The mower delivers a yield that is nearly 50% higher than traditional triple mower combinations, meeting the needs of larger farms challenged by increasingly shorter weather windows.
In combination with a 3.10 or 3.50 metre front mower, the overlap width varies from 46 cm (GMD 3125 F) to 66 cm (GMD 3525 F), providing a clean cut on slopes and on bends.

Unique folding kinematics

The remarkable compactness during transport, with a width of less than 3 metres and a height of less than 3.80 metres, is made possible by the exclusive folding kinematics of the cutter bars at an angle close to 180°. This design facilitates and secures road transport while reducing bulk.
Travel with peace of mind and gain comfort of use.
Compactness comparable to conventional triple mowers with a two-stage folding mechanism system

Reliability as a watchword

Having reliable, high-performance, and easily adaptable equipment has become essential to meet the current and future challenges in agriculture. The GMD 15030 perfectly meets these requirements and is a real asset for professionals.
Its 100% mechanical drive ensures maximum reliability and consistent performance. Both sides are equipped with friction clutches that protect the two cutter bars in the event of overload, preserving the machine's components.
The patented gearbox ensures efficient power transmission and optimal synchronisation of the cutter bars. It allows a folding close to 180°, contributing to the compactness of the unit. No matter the position, synchronisation remains active, so the cutter bars can move independently from -4° to +6°, ensuring excellent ground following.

Control based on your needs

ISOBUS MOWER CONTROL revolutionises the way you control your mower and makes your machine ISOBUS compatible.

Two control modes for every need

Aware of the diversity of user profiles and their specific expectations, two control modes are available.

As standard, the mower is equipped with the KFA 12 control box to monitor all functions from the cab: suspension, switching between transport-work position and independent lifting of the mower units. The control box thus offers an economical solution that is simple and intuitive to use.

ISOBUS MOWER CONTROL, designed for large-width mowing units. An alternative offering more features and greater ease of use. Control is via an ISOBUS terminal (in the tractor or a KUHN CCI 60, 800, or 1200 terminal) or an AUX-N certified joystick.

Even more peace of mind with Section Control

With ISOBUS MOWER CONTROL, take advantage of automation features such as headland sequences or Section Control for increased ease of use.
The TC-Section Control feature automates the individual raising and lowering of mower units at the headland. In the most challenging fields or at the tips, the driver can only focus on driving, offering real comfort and increased productivity.
Automation features that provide users with enhanced ease of use.

Perfect mowing in all conditions

OPTIDISC ELITE cutter bar ensures high-quality cut.

OPTIDISC ELITE: the key to performance

The GMD 15030 consists of 4 aligned bars fitted with OPTIDISC ELITE cutter bar, each fitted with 7 discs.
In all situations, whether on hilly plots, in wet conditions or with sticky grass, the cutter bar ensures excellent mowing quality thanks to different disc spacings, large overlap areas and low mowing angle.
Where the discs diverge (A), spacing is reduced to facilitate the overlap, while it is increased where the discs converge (B) to provide more space for crop to pass through.
At the heart of the cutter bar, high-end components reinforce the reliability and durability of the assembly:
  • Double row angular contact ball bearings.
  • Large diameter gearwheels in forged steel with 3 cogs engaged.
  • 3-point bearing mounting with long through bolts.

To prevent damage during mowing, the PROTECTADRIVE safety system, exclusive to KUHN, has been designed to cope with obstacles. In the event of a violent impact, the shaft holding the disc shears above the bearing thanks to a groove protecting the internal components. In less than 15 minutes, the machine is operational again at reduced repair costs.

Minimum maintenance

The GMD 15030 has been designed to reduce maintenance to a minimum.

The OPTIDISC ELITE cutter bar, lubricated for life, requires no maintenance, ensuring long-lasting reliability without intervention.

The FAST-FIT quick-release knife system allows a replacement in a matter of minutes, minimising downtime during the season. A powerful leaf spring applies constant pressure on the fastener, ensuring excellent knife hold and optimum safety during replacement.

Routine maintenance is mainly limited to a few lubrication points on the transmissions and pivot points, with long service intervals. This saves time and provides peace of mind for demanding users.

LIFT-CONTROL: hydraulic suspension for optimal ground following

Lowering the level of impurities from 4% to 2% per year, means gaining 89€/ha/year*.
With the LIFT-CONTROL hydro-pneumatic suspension system, controlling impurities is no longer a problem.
The adjustment adapted by the suspension system limits the introduction of impurities in the fodder and reduces the ground pressure of the cutter bar, hence a reduction of fuel consumption and skid wear, and preservation of plant cover.

The suspension system is combined with NON-STOP safety with two pivot points:
  • 1st pivot point: when the machine encounters an obstacle on the outside (A), the mowing unit pivots rearwards and lifts up simultaneously.

  • 2nd pivot point: when the machine encounters an obstacle on the inside (B), the mowing unit pivots around the central connection between the two cutter bars.

After clearing the obstacle, the mower automatically returns to its working position.

*Researchers from the Chamber of Agriculture of Weser Erms (Germany) have carried out a study in a German forage-producing region. They compared two silages, one with a level of impurities of 2% and the other with 4% in order to determine the financial impact on a dairy farm. After having measured the nutritional value of the silage of poorer quality, they calculated the value of concentrates that needed to be added in order to reach the same level of milk production.
The LIFT-CONTROL suspension system combined with NON-STOP safety protection protects the machine in the event of an obstacle.

Reduction in compacted surface area

The GMD 15030 mower fits perfectly into the Controlled Traffic Farming (CTF) strategy. This new agricultural practice involves limiting the areas where agricultural machinery passes to reduce soil compaction, resulting in increased forage production.
The GMD 15030 limits compaction by being compatible with Controlled Traffic Farming (CTF).
