Grain Drills (PREMIA, 5200M, 9400NT & 9600)

The KUHN 9600 folding grain drills are a high-capacity, precision seeding solution built for farmers planting small grains or cover crops in minimum or conventional tillage systems. With one of the largest seed capacities in the industry and a durable all-steel, welded tank, the 9600 maximizes time in the field and minimizes refills. Hydraulic downforce and the  Crossflex™ system ensure consistent seed depth and smooth ground following, while the leading-edge opener and Helica meter system deliver accurate seed placement and flow. Easy calibration via in-cab monitor or SeedSet mobile app helps reduce seed waste and ISOBUS compatibility provides real-time monitoring and control for efficient, high-performance operation.

Your benefits

High Capacity & Efficient Operation

Large Capacity

The all-steel, welded seed tank is built for exceptional durability and long service life. With a generous seed capacity of 3.43 bu/ft (396.6 L/m), it minimizes downtime by spending less time refilling allowing more time in the field. Depending on the drill size, the tank offers a total capacity of 103 bu (3629 liters) with a 30 ft (9 m) drill and 137 bu (4827 liters) with a 40 ft (12 m) drill. For added convenience, factory-installed seed level indicators are visible from the operator’s seat and an optional agitator is available to enhance seed flow.

Mechanical Drive or Hydraulic Drive Options

The 9600 offers mechanical and hydraulic drive options to suit different needs.

Mechanical Drive: The mechanical drive uses a ground contact tire for consistent performance and is available in electronic and non-electronic versions. When equipped with electronics, it supports optional sectional control for improved precision and reduced overlap.

Hydraulic Drive: The hydraulic drive provides precise seed rate control via ISOBUS, with integrated electronics, standard sectional control, single-sample calibration and push-button seed sampling for easy setup and accuracy.

Simplest Calibration in Its Class

Set the drill using the seed chart or SeedSet mobile app, test a portion of an acre, weigh the seed and let the system automatically calculate and fine-tune the rate for precise, repeatable results.

Superior Depth Control for Consistent Emergence

Crossflex™ Opener

The 13.8" double disc openers, featuring a 1.5" leading disc, deliver outstanding ground penetration and effective residue slicing for precise seeding. Engineered for superior depth control and seed placement, the system includes Crossflex bushings that ensure consistent ground contact and contouring. Maintenance-free pivot points enhance reliability, while the enclosed seed tube places seed directly into the trench for optimal accuracy. The seed drop point is positioned ahead of the disc center to maintain consistent depth and the double-rank opener configuration provides a 6" (28 cm) offset between adjacent assemblies, improving soil and residue flow.

Precise Depth Adjustment

Spring-loaded inside disc scrapers provide aggressive cleaning action to maintain optimal performance in varying field conditions. The “T” style opener depth control allows precise adjustments in 1/8" (0.32 cm) increments, offering a depth range from 0.25" to 3.0" (0.64–7.62 cm) for accurate seed placement. An enclosed drop tube between the blades ensures smooth and consistent seed distribution directly into the trench.

Hydraulic Downforce

The hydraulic downforce system delivers up to 300 lbs (125 kg) of pressure, ensuring optimal soil penetration and seed placement. It features independently adjustable downforce settings for the wings and center section, allowing for precise control across varying field conditions. Easy-to-read pressure gauges provide clear feedback for accurate adjustments, while an adjustable turnbuckle maintains the correct opener operating angle regardless of downforce levels.

Press Wheel Options

Four press wheel options are available: 2 x 13 smooth, 2 x 13 single rib, 3 x 13 single rib, and 3 x 13 dual rib. The 2 x 13 smooth transfers the maximum amount of opener down pressure over the seed and seed trench for good seed-to-soil contact. The 2 x 13 and 3 x 13 single rib work in a wide variety of soil conditions. Some soils tend to crust over during spring seeding. The single rib design creates a fracture zone as moist soil begins to dry down, providing a path for easier seed emergence. The 3 x 13 dual rib “pinches” loose soil from each side of the seed trench and moves it toward the center. This action provides easy emergence for more fragile seedlings.

Accurate Seed Placement for Higher Yield Potential

KUHN Helica Spiral flute meter

KUHN’s “Helica” spiral flute meter features a helical roll design that delivers smooth, consistent seed metering without dumping, as each flute passes the seed gate—proven for reliability and precision. A manual seed meter shut-off allows for flexible row spacing, while a single-lever seed gate adjustment ensures proper gate-to-meter tolerance and simplifies cleanout.

Seed Rate Adjustment

The seed rate adjustment system features two easy-to-use controls that eliminate the need for sprockets or chains. The KUHN micrometer regulates how much of the Helica roll is engaged in the meter, while the KUHN Variator adjusts the seed shaft speed. Together, these adjustments provide accurate and efficient seed rate control for optimal performance in the field.

Sectional Control (via Hydraulic or Electronic Mechanical Drive)

Sectional control reduces overlap, minimizes seed waste, and increases overall precision. Hydraulic drive includes sectional control as standard; mechanical drive offers it when equipped with electronic monitoring.
