BP 8402 PRO - Product information

Farm sizes are constantly increasing, and shredding operations are no exception to the need for higher work outputs. However, working width is not the only key to meeting this demand; it must be combined with superior shredding quality and minimal maintenance downtime. Highly versatile, the BP 8402 PRO was designed specifically to address these challenges across various conditions, including crop residues, cover crops, and grassland.

It can be used in combination with the BPR 1002 PRO series of versatile reversible shredders—specifically the BPR 2802 PRO (2.8 m) and BPR 3102 PRO (3.1 m).
These two models share the same technical specifications as the BP 8402 PRO and can, of course, be operated independently.

Professional shredding quality and capacity

The heart of the shredder : the rotor

The BP 8402 PRO was designed to push the boundaries of wide-width shredding capacity. Its rotor features a large 493 mm outer cutting diameter. Combined with a high peripheral tool speed of 52 m/s, this rotor handles a greater volume of residue while maximizing shredding quality. Two counter-blades—one serrated and one straight—come as standard to ensure fine shredding. A third serrated counter-blade is available as an option to further enhance shredding quality. These features ensure effective management of crop residues or cover crops, allowing for precise control over their destruction and decomposition, thereby benefiting the subsequent crop.

Hammer knives: a key component for high-performance shredding

The rotor features 8 rows of tools arranged in a helical pattern, ensuring superior suction and residue distribution. It is equipped with 36 heavy-duty hammer knives (weighing 1.3 kg each), attached to the rotor via notched mounts made of hardened boron steel, which enhances the rotor's aggressive cutting action and durability. These hammer knives are distinguished by four key features:
  • rounded hammer knife heel, to protect the rotor tube from impact shock
  • smooth hammer knife contours, to minimize residue buildup and accumulation
  • profile designed to maximize the suction effect on the material to be shredded
  • reinforced cutting edge at the center of the hammer knife—the area most prone to wear—to maximize service life.

The hammer knives on the BP 8402 PRO thus ensure optimal, uniform, and long-lasting shredding performance.

Efficient and durable design

Floatation and ground following

The BP 8402 PRO shredder features a central frame equipped as standard with LIFT-CONTROL hydropneumatic suspension. This ensures great stability during operation and excellent adaptation to ground contours, resulting in perfectly uniform shredding. Headland manoeuvres are made easier by the ability to hydraulically lift only the shredding units, without operating the tractor's lift. The LIFT-CONTROL hydropneumatic suspension also plays a key role in reducing stress on the roller and its ends, thereby ensuring their longevity. This durability is further enhanced by the standard roller design, which features a tube wall thickness of 10 mm. Like the roller itself, the removable ends are reinforced and come standard with end scrapers.

Shredder safety and protection

With increasingly tight operating windows and the need for rapid post-harvest intervention (such as managing European corn borer in maize crops), no one can afford to damage their equipment due to an overlooked obstacle or an operating error. To address this, the BP 8402 PRO features a mechanical spring-loaded safety system integrated into the headstock. This allows the shredding unit to retract and lift upon impact with an obstacle.
Particular attention has been paid to the shredder's drive system to prevent damage to the secondary drivelines when folding the machine; the shredding units are driven from the outer ends. An optional "FOLDING CONTROL" system provides an additional safety feature by preventing the shredder from folding while the rotors are still spinning. This system also monitors rotor speed during operation to ensure the entire unit functions correctly.

Ready for intensive use

The versatile BP 8402 PRO shredder is designed to meet high-output work requirements. With a working width of 8.4 m, the unit is intended for use with tractors of up to 400 hp. It can be operated in combination with the BPR 2802 PRO or BPR 3102 PRO, providing front/rear overlaps of 23 cm and 37 cm, respectively. Power is optimally transmitted to the rotors via PowerBand belts—configured with 3 and 2 strands per shredding unit—with automatic belt tensioning. For heavy-duty conditions, the shredder can be optionally equipped with a combination of chain curtains and rubber flaps, replacing the standard stone guards.

Minimal maintenance

Maximizing work output requires minimizing downtime spent on maintenance. In addition to using reinforced support rollers, the shredding units feature internal housing protection in the form of a bolted, 5 mm thick sheet metal lining. Like the sheet metal lining, the counter-knives are bolted on, allowing for easy replacement in the event of wear. The rear of the shredding housings features an adjustable, opening hood designed to regulate the ejection or recirculation of shredded material back into the rotor. To further simplify maintenance, the BP 8402 PRO employs drive systems designed to reduce greasing frequency; for instance, the greasing interval for the secondary drive u-joints is just 250 hours.
