The STRIGER 100 is the agronomic tool developed by KUHN for strip-till. In the row, you benefit from a soil preparation, just like a conventional machine and in the inter-row, you capitalise on the advantages of direct seeding while preserving a cover of residue. The seed strip is warmed to give a quick start to the plants. Organic matter and moisture are stored in the inter-row.
The STRIGER 100 is distinguished by its simple and reproducible adjustments of the debris clearers, the working depth and the press wheel.

Each element is independent of the others thanks to the parallelogram system which ensures excellent ground following.
The STRIGER 100 offers great adaptability to all conditions of use: Liquid, solid or slurry fertiliser applications; Different inter-row widths; A wide choice of working parts and equipment; Several frames available: 3 m, 3.50 m, 4.40 m and 6 m.

The STRIGER 100 combines all the advantages of direct seeding and conventional seeding

What is strip-till?

Strip-till is where only the future seed furrow is cultivated, preserving a layer of undisturbed residue in the inter-row. By working only in the seed furrow, you give the crop every chance of success just like a conventional preparation. In the inter-row, you benefit from the advantages of direct seeding: water conservation, supression of weeds, improved soil biology and reduced mechanisation loads.
Strip-till is defined by four points:
  • Vertical tillage
  • Cleaning of the furrow
  • Fertilisation
  • Preparation of the seedbed

With the STRIGER 100, you accumulate the advantages:
  • Lower mechanisation costs with a reduction in working hours and less fuel consumption
  • More economical use of fertiliser because it's placed exactly where you need it enabling you to reduce the dose
  • Reduction in the use of weeding products thanks to the soil being covered with a layer of residue

Assess the conditions

Strip till is a conservation farming technique that requires a certain amount of rigour to obtain satisfactory results. Several points must be respected to ensure the success of the strip-till approach.
First of all, it is essential to observe the soil carefully to analyse its composition (texture, mineral elements) and identify possible areas of compaction.
Attention must also be paid to the weed flora and the fauna in the field:
  • Places where weeds can grow
  • Areas favourable to pests

The climate of the region should also be taken into consideration:
  • Probability of frost: natural cracking of the soil, action of freezing/thawing, destruction of winter coverings
  • rainfall: know the water reserve of the soil, assess the dates of destruction of covers and/or concealing to preserve a good potential
  • typical climate at the beginning of spring: warming duration of the seed furrow

Six actions to ensure optimal cultivations of the row

The STRIGER 100 element is composed of different elements, each has a specific role to play:
  1. the ground is followed using the hydraulic parallelogram and the gauge wheels. Each element is independent of the frame and the other elements, this allows perfect ground tracking.
  2. the opening disc cuts through any plant resdiues and cuts a slot ready for the leg. As an option, a corrugated disc can be fitted which offers a better expansion of the furrow before the leg passes through.
  3. Debris clearers clear out any residue in the seed furrow to provide a clean seedbed. They can be lifted out when work is resumed in spring.
  4. The leg and point cracks and loosens the seed furrow to allow good development of the roots. The adjustment of the working depth from 7 to 30 cm is done without tools. To prevent projections of soil to the inter-row, the leg is independent from the deflector discs.
  5. The deflector discs channel the flow of soil while creating a fine tilth. The inter-row remains intact and weed emergence is significantly reduced.
  6. The rear press wheels reconsolidate the seedbed and avoid cavities in the seed furrow. The pressure is adjustable and they can be raised during a pre-winter pass.

Simple and precise use

Ultra-precise, tool free adjustments

The STRIGER 100 range has tool free adjustments to optimise the use:
  • Tool free adjustment of the debris clearers from the rear of the module with the possibility of retracting them.
  • Tool free adjustment of the working depth from 7 to 30 cm.
  • Hydraulic adjustment of the pressure of the press wheel for instant adaptation to working conditions. The wheel is retractable without tools to facilitate water infiltration and overwintering.

All these adjustments are fast and reproducible across the machine to bring you a limitless level of comfort and precision.

Adapted for all conditions

Different cultivation strategies can be used at different times of the year depending upon the soil type and the conditions. Autumn only cultivations are favourable in heavy clay soil (+40%): work at 20 - 30 cm deep at low speed: 6 - 8 km/h
: Spring cultivations would uplift moisture and create a coarse structure. It is therefore imperative to only work in the autumn so that rainfall and frost do their job on the row over winter.

This early work makes it possible to have good drying conditions and facilitates soil loosening.

Autumn and spring: work at 15-30 cm depth at a speed of 6 to 10 km / h
For early harvests (cereals), it is advisable to go through with the STRIGER between the 15th of August and the 15th of October.
For late harvests such as maize, attention should be paid to harvest conditions and travel with the STRIGER in moist conditions.
In both cases, the goal is to create a coarse, cloddy and unconsolidated structure in order to let the winter conditions act.

During the spring, the goal is to warm, firm up and fertilise the furrow.
To avoid damaging the deep structure of the soil created by winter, the working depth should be set the same as the seeding depth.

Spring only: working from 10 to 20 cm deep at a speed of 8 to 12 km/h
The STRIGER pass should be made three weeks to three days before seeding on destroyed or green cover (pay attention to drying).

The crop must have all the necessary conditions for its germination: water - warmth - fine tilth and firm soil.

Localised fertiliser application

The STRIGER 100 offers the advantage of being able to fertilise your crops in the row, closer to the roots. KUHN offers complete liquid, solid or slurry fertiliser solutions.
  • fertilisation with solid fertilisers:
    • support and distribution head,
    • cyclones and distribution heads,
    • adaptation for front hoppers.
  • fertilisation with liquid fertilisers:
    • adjustable diffuser tips.
  • organic fertiliser (slurry):
    • dispenser support.

Burial of the slurry when passing through with the STRIGER 100 allows you to increase the profitability of your machine with an additional option.

High-performance equipment

The STRIGER 100 point offers the best working performance with excellent loosening ability while maintaining minimal disturbance at the surface.
The adjustment of the working depth, from 7 to 30 cm, is fast and precise. No tools are needed, bringing you more comfort and saving time when adjusting your STRIGER 100.
The leg can can be equipped with three different points to suit your working conditions:
  • Fast-Fit points minimise downtime and increase your work rate;
  • The Rock point (50 mm) is ideal in stony conditions;
  • The 50 mm ST point is adapted to wearing conditions.
For optimum work quality in very shallow spring work, it is possible to equip your STRIGER 100 with double discs instead of the tine. They can effectively warm up the furrow and create fine earth.
Finally, side markers can also be added onto the STRIGER 100 3 metre, 4 metre 40 and 6 metre models.

A flawless finish

The press wheels of the STRIGER 100 consolidate the soil at depth while avoiding compaction on the surface. The goal is to break the clods to promote water infiltration and keep moisture in the soil.
KUHN offers three types of press wheel on the STRIGER 100:
  • Steel finger press wheel. It offers strong crumbling with the creation of fine soil to ensure good soil - seed contact. This wheel is recommended for use in spring
  • rubber press weheel. This provides a higher degree of consolidation to keep moisture in the soil. This wheel is suitable for summer work.
  • Chain press wheel. It crumbles any clods and gives a light consolidation to help with overwintering. This wheel is recommended for autumn work.
